BARNSTAPLE: COTIE INNOVATION LAUNCHPAD
In 2020, Petroc opened Cotie (Centre of Technology and Innovation Excellence) at our North Devon Campus.
Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Local Skills Improvement Fund, our mission is to provide start-ups, micro and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access to a wide range of advanced technology-based facilities, all designed to nurture business growth and develop product ideas and concepts.
With shared-use laboratories housing 3D printers, workbenches, Cleanrooms, design facilities, a new immersive room, complemented by hot desking and conferencing space. The Centre is the perfect setting for entrepreneurs to hone concepts, develop ideas.
Many start-ups and small to medium-sized businesses don’t have the facilities or funds to enable them to get ideas off the ground but Cotie will open up new opportunities and break down some of those barriers.
The centre encourages collaboration, promotes the exchange of information between academia and industries, and creates opportunities for small start-up ventures and ‘cottage industries’ to develop and grow through knowledge transfer partnerships.
TIVERTON: COTIE INNOVATION HUB
We are creating a new Business Innovation Hub at our Mid Devon campus. The centre is funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF), in partnership with Mid Devon District Council.
The space is designed for businesses that can take advantage of our advanced technology-based facilities.
It will incorporate design space, augmented/virtual reality labs, complemented by hotdesking facilities, conference/meeting rooms and spaces for businesses to connect with their customers both in-person and virtually.
The facility is available to all businesses and start-ups, but is particularly designed to support the local manufacturing, engineering, agri-tech, environmental and pharmaceuticals sectors. It will also appeal to makers and creatives, who will be able to take advantage of the space for that creative flair!
The development of the Cotie Business Innovation Hub is being complemented by a wide programme of outreach, business support and knowledge transfer activities.
